Explorer Post #780

Fire Explorer Jonathan Frank on a "Burn to Learn" fire in Wemme.

Hoodland Fire District #74 has two programs that are designed to introduce teens to fire and emergency services and provide them a hands on learning environment.  The Jr. Explorer program is for middle schoolers ages 12-14.  The Explorer program is for high schoolers ages 15-18.

The Jr. Explorer program allows middle school aged teens to learn basic firefighting and emergency skills in a active, hands on, and structured environment. They meet once a month for a two hour training drill with the Explorers and Experienced Instructors.

The Explorer program allows high school aged teens to learn more advanced firefighting and emergency skills in an active,  hands on, and structured environment.  They meet once a week for two hour drills with Experienced Instructors. As they progress they can earn the opportunity to safely work and ride along side by side with firefighters on actual alarms.

Both programs expose participants to many career experiences including leadership opportunities and community service activities. Explorer meetings and training are at the Welches Main Station, Mondays at 7 pm.
